This site is dedicated to the memory of Alan Yates.

A much-loved father and grandfather, Alan died on Boxing Day, 2012, after fighting an aggressive form of IPF. It came out of the blue, and we are raising funds in his memory in the hope that others do not have the same experience. We hope to raise funds to dedicate a tree to him, a member of the Woodland Trust himself, and also to name a star in his honour. This will be fitting, given his fascination with the night sky, as well as the entire natural world. His enquiring mind and eagerness to help others is much missed by his friends and family. We miss too his idiosyncratic piano playing; his help in the garden and love of bonfires; his knowledge of places, their history and geography; his skill at solving Araucaria's crosswords, and all his many kindnesses. "Is it so small a thing To have enjoy'd the sun, To have lived light in the spring, To have loved, to have thought, to have done; To have advanced true friends, and beat down baffling foes....."
